Abstract
Effects of rewarded direct goalbox placements (DPs) prior to runway training on first-trial acquisition and resistance to extinction were studied. DPs directly over the foodcup enhanced first-trial performance, but did not produce an overlearning-extinction effect (OLE). DPs requiring running to the foodcup produced the OLE but also reversed the first-trial results. Results were discussed in terms of Spence’s conception of the role of rg in incentive and frustration.
