Abstract
Free recall and intertrial organization of unrelated words were assessed at presentation rates of ½, 1, 2, or 4 sec, with recall either paced at 2-sec intervals or unpaced. Total recall times were equated for the two response modes. Neither recall nor organization differed for paced vs unpaced responding. Recall and organization were higher at slower presentation rates, and the two performance measures were positively correlated.
