Abstract
After training with a paired-associate learning task, retention was assessed by the verbal stimulation technique after 2 min and 48 h. A significant loss in retention from 2 min to 48 h was accompanied by a corresponding increase in extra-experimental sources of interference. Proactive interference due to pre-experimental verbal habits was found to increase as the retention interval increased.
