Abstract
Thirty male rats were deprived of food for 0–6 days, then presented simultaneously with food and a receptive female. Twenty-five males ejaculated twice within 30 min; all but four of them deferred eating until after ejaculation. Food deprivation increased the latencies to begin copulation (depressed the sexual arousal mechanism) and reduced the stimulation needed for the first ejaculation (facilitated the copulatory and ejaculatory mechanism).
