Abstract
In two experiments, the effect of a 1-mg/kg dose of d-amphetamine on operant responding for water on a DRL 22-sec schedule was investigated. If the water reinforcement was signaled by a change in illumination, this dose of amphetamine did not affect response or reinforcement rate. In the absence of an external stimulus correlated with reinforcement, however, amphetamine markedly increased response rate and decreased reinforcement rate on this schedule. Timing behavior was disrupted regardless of whether reinforcement was signaled or nonsignaled.
