Abstract
The design and improvement of gearboxes for metalworking machines is considered, beginning with the selection of the best designs for the basic components and the improvement of the primary drives, supply drives, and other key components. Topics covered include the design of a milling machine, kinematic calculation of the basic components, determination of the machine tool’s engineering characteristics, and kinematic calculation of the primary drive. Such calculations permit improvement in the machine tool’s design so as to increase its productivity and expand its capabilities.
