Monitoring Transmission Components by Digital Thermal Diagnostics

Russian Engineering Research Aims and scope

Abstract

A technology has been developed for automated diagnostics of the components of transmissions in static or mobile systems by means of built-in instruments. The technology has been tested for bearings in the transmissions of tractors and agricultural drives. The technology includes calculation of the temperature in the frictional zone; creation of a three-dimensional finite-element model for thermal analysis of the transmission component; calculation of the constant of proportionality for the finite-element model in calculating the temperature within the frictional zone during system operation; and comparison of the temperature with the limiting permissible value. Comparison shows that the temperature values obtained by numerical modeling are in good agreement with experimental data and hence this approach is of practical utility.
