Hybrid Finishing of Cylindrical Gears: Analysis by Physical Modeling

Abstract

Formalization of the cutting conditions for teeth of a hybrid (cutting and deforming) tool in the finishing of cylindrical gears by shaving and rolling is considered. Attention is paid to tooth wear of the tool and the possibility of sharpening within the tool’s life cycle. Physical modeling of the shaving and rolling of cylindrical gears is shown to be necessary, and modeling options are considered, by analogy with turning.
