Abstract
The influence of chromium carbide added to flux core wire on the wear resistance of the surfaced metal is investigated. Experimental filler and electrode wire of the same composition is used for arc surfacing in a protective atmosphere. The chromium carbide breaks down in the arc, alloying the metal surface with chromium and carbon and thereby increasing its hardness. The wear resistance is greatest for surfaced metal with a subeutectic composition in which austenite and the maximum content of carbide eutectic are present.
