Model of Electric-Brush Wear Including Brush–Commutator Dynamics

  • Published:
Russian Engineering Research Aims and scope

Abstract

A mathematical model of the wear of electric brushes in a dc machine, taking account of the dynamics of brush interaction with the commutator surface, is verified. Brush wear is analyzed in laboratory conditions and in the operation of train motors. Comparison of the modeling results with experimental data shows that the model may be used to predict the remaining brush life with specified accuracy.
