Noise Characteristics of Chain Drives with Involute Sprockets

  • Published:
Russian Engineering Research Aims and scope

Abstract

After noise analysis of chain drives, means of noise reduction are investigated. Often known as silent drives, such transmissions are less noisy than other chain drive. The velocity of chain impact on the sprocket is proposed for use in assessing the noise of a chain drive. The noise benefits of an involute sprocket in involute sprocket are outlined, and the theoretical analysis is compared with experimental data.
