Refined Working-Temperature Calculation of Gears, Taking Account of Contact Thermal Conductivity

  • Published:
Russian Engineering Research Aims and scope

Abstract

The existing method of calculating the working temperature of a gear housing is refined by taking account of the contact thermal conductivity, which depends on the materials used in the housing and the frame, the machining quality of the supporting surfaces, and the tightening of the screws that attach the housing to the frame. As an example, the housing temperature of a worm gear is calculated.
