Russian Engineering Research Aims and scope

Abstract

The influence of layer-by-layer forging and subsequent heat treatment on the structure and properties of VT6 titanium-alloy parts made by layer-by-layer surfacing is investigated. The best mechanical properties (strength and plasticity) and the best microstructure of the metal are attained in multilayer surfacing with layer-by-layer forging and subsequent heat treatment. In that case, the mechanical properties of the 3D-printed samples correspond to those of VT6 alloy samples produced by stamping.

Funding

Financial support was provided by two sources: for the manufacture of the experimental VT6 alloy samples, the government of the Perm region as part of an international research project on the real-time modeling of layer-by-layer synthesis of wire, with the development of a software prototype (contract S-26/512); and for the investigation of the alloy’s mechanical and metallurgical properties, the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education (project FSNM-2020-0028).
