Abstract
More efficient machining of bearing races is possible if grinding is replaced by hard turning with subsequent smoothing by means of replaceable polyhedral inserts. That reduces the overall machining time. The applicability of tools made of cubic boron nitride (CBN) and cutting ceramic in such operations is established. Corresponding machining conditions are recommended.
