Test Methods for Power Tools

Russian Engineering Research Aims and scope

Abstract

Tests of power tools and measurements of the impact energy on the basis of Procedure 05 of the European Power Tools Association (EPTA) and the method in State Standard GOST 55162-2012 are compared by means of the UIPU-4M system (developed by OOO UDARMASh). It is found that the test and measurement methods may be improved, with increase in precision and reproducibility.

Notes

  1. EPTA includes 16 manufacturers of electrical machines, such as Hilti, BOSCH, Makita, Hitachi, Ingersoll Rand, Metabo, SPARKY, BAIER, and Interskol.

  2. Procedure 05 does not describe the test bench.

  3. Procedure 05 provides no information regarding the reproducibility of tests by the method there proposed.

  4. Pulses observed after the measuring rod breaks contact with the striker may arise as a result of reflection of the shock wave from the shaft of the rod and also as a result of interference accompanying impact. In view of their small amplitude, these pulses have no influence on failure and may be disregarded.

  5. EPTA Procedure 05 does not address the question of whether the declared energy value is reliable if the mean energy values of the shock pulse for the selected machines are very different (for example, by more than 5%).

  6. According to the procedure used by Makita, the value for the HMC0871C tool is 11.6 J.

  7. Besides European nations, Procedure 05 has been adopted by Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
