Extending tool life in buttress-thread cutting on high-strength blanks

  • Published:
Russian Engineering Research Aims and scope

Abstract

The reduced life of hard-alloy plates in cutting a reinforced buttress thread on high-strength alloy blanks is analyzed. The configuration employed industrially for thread cutting impermissibly reduces the thickness of the layer that is cut by the 3° side of the plate and converts the process from cutting to smoothing. Means of increasing tool life by a factor of 2–3 are proposed.
