Increasing punch life in cold cup extrusion with active friction

  • Published:
Russian Engineering Research Aims and scope

Abstract

The stress at the end surface of the punch in the cold extrusion of a U-shaped hollow cylinder (a cup) is determined by modeling with regression equations. The results of such extrusion with active and reactive friction at blank–matrix contact are compared. With active friction, the punch life is greater by a factor of 1.5.
