Grinding of single crystals by bound abrasive

  • Published:
Russian Engineering Research Aims and scope

Abstract

Grinding of the ends of lithium-niobate monocrystalline plates by bound abrasive is considered. The diamond laps employed are based on ASN micropowder (grain size 10/7), with organic and metallic binders. In grinding by laps with organic binder, the rate at which material is removed is 16–20% higher than for laps with metallic binder. The roughness of the ground end surfaces of the lithium-niobate monocrystalline plates is practically independent of the applied pressure and the cutting speed.
