Predicting the working life of abrasive grains

  • Published:
Russian Engineering Research Aims and scope

Abstract

A method is proposed for determining the life of an abrasive grain on the basis of its internal stress in grinding. The mechanical interaction of a single abrasive grain with the blank is simulated. Conversion from the stress state of the grain to the mass of abrasive removed by various wear mechanisms provides the basis for a group grinding technology, in which efficient machining equipment and conditions are established by predicting wheel performance.
