Abstract
Pendulum inscription by means of an indenter, with acoustic recording, may be employed to analyze the failure kinetics of tool materials and predict tool quality. The use of acoustic emission to assess tool failure is well known. Its downside is that the load introduced by the indenter is local. A possible compensation is to inscribe the indenter in the surface at constant depth. Pendulum inscription permits investigation of the failure kinetics when the indenter travels over an arc within the sample [1–3].
