Abstract
Nonuniform wear of the active surfaces in an involute screw transmission significantly impairs its operational properties. A slightly worn zone at the engagement pole disrupts smooth operation of the transmission. Therefore, the engagement-pole zone is characterized by jamming at elevated loads or by pitting at unacceptably low loads. The performance of an involute screw transmission may be improved by increasing its initial geometric stability.
