Actual contact area and frictional coefficient of the drill guides and the hole in deep drilling

Russian Engineering Research Aims and scope

Abstract

The actual contact area and frictional coefficient of the drill guides and the hole produced in deep drilling are investigated as a function of the inclination of the microprojections in the guides. A model of the contact interaction of these surfaces is outlined and experimentally confirmed. A program for simulating the surfaces of the guide and the hole is described. The program permits the prediction of the actual contact area and frictional coefficients in different conditions.
