Abstract
The solution to the problem of nonlinear oscillations of a water layer on the surface of a melting hailstone in a uniform external field is found. The electric field intensity near a hailstone’s surface is calculated. It is shown that the electric field intensity on the hailstone tops is sufficiently high for the ignition of a corona discharge.
