Abstract

The paper aims to put forward and check the hypothesis that interannual variations in the monthly means of sea ice thickness and concentration in the Kara Sea gulfs from November to March can be significantly influenced by variations in their sea levels. Some areas of the Gulf of Ob, Yenisei, Baidarata and Gydan gulfs are considered. The areas where such influence was really observed in 1993–2019 are identified. It is suggested that with further warming of the Arctic climate, the total extent of such areas will grow, and consideration of the revealed relationships will provide more precise prediction of changes in ice and navigation conditions in these gulfs.
