Abstract
Based on shipboard measurements taken in 1984–2017, the multiyear variations in the surface water temperature and salinity in the Barents Sea during the spring-summer period are investigated. A regression analysis has found increasing trends for both analyzed parameters, indicating warming processes in the Arctic regions. Application of linear and nonlinear models revealed significant influence of the global atmospheric circulation, the hydrological conditions at the Kola Meridian secular section, and the sea ice cover area on the long-term dynamics of surface temperature and salinity in the Barents Sea. The highest measured values were associated with a positive mode of the North Atlantic Oscillation indices, high water temperatures in the coastal flow of the Murmansk Current, and low sea ice concentrations. Results of the study can be used for further monitoring of the Barents Sea oceanography during the period of global climatic changes.
