Abstract

The electrical strength of Russian-made high-voltage type PSV120B (dirt-resistant design) and PS160D (normal design) glass-plate insulators operating on 66- and 230-kV overhead lines in the Sheikh- Naijar industrial district (Syria) was checked under artificial contamination in laboratory conditions. The results of the moisture-discharge tests of PSV120B and PS160D insulators and PS70E reference insulators at artificial contamination according to regulatory documents at various degrees of contamination are presented. Recommendations are given for choosing the number of insulators according to the moisture–discharge characteristics of the Sheikh-Najjar industrial district in the zone with the fourth-degree insulation pollution to increase the number of PS160D-type insulators in the suspension sets.
