Abstract—The transient stability of power engineering systems depends on the severity of short-circuit (SC) faults, generator load in the prefault mode, and postemergency conditions. This paper considers the criteria for assessing the severity of SC faults for choosing controlling actions to prevent violations in transient stability and proposes the most representative parameters for automatically ranking various kinds of SC by severity.
