Abstract

During operation, working bodies of agricultural machines interact with plants experiencing various deformations, including stretching of groups of stems. To design mechanisms of agricultural machines, it is necessary to know patterns of behavior of plant materials under deformation. The aim of this study is to develop a refined method for determining the patterns of changes in the force required for stretching a group of plant materials depending on their relative elongation and taking into account different shapes and areas of stem cross-sections. A refined method for determining the patterns of changes in the force required for stretching a group of parallel stems is given graphoanalytically, in which a polyline is traced. Dependences are obtained for determining the tensile strength of a layer of parallel and chaotically stacked stems taking into account the length of plants' interaction sections and the thickness and density of the layer, and conditions for stretching the layer are identified. The research results are intended for use in the computational and theoretical basis of engineering methods for designing agricultural machinery mechanisms taking into account specific properties of plant materials as deformable mechanical systems.
