Abstract
The dynamics ofatomic populations in the field of a single femtosecond pulse is numerically investigated in the frameworks of the resonant approximation and beyond it. It is shown that for the pulses with the extremely short duration the violation of resonant approximation leads not only to the quantitative but also to the qualitative changes in the behavior of the three-level atom.
