Grazing incidence of electrons in experiments on optical transition radiation

Abstract

The well-known expressions for intensity of transition radiation (TR), including the Cerenkov radiation in a transparent medium, are modified taking into account the interface of two media. The anomalies observed in optical TR experiments in the case of grazing incidence of electrons into the target can be analyzed easily: the ratio of radiation intensities at the grazing incidence of electrons to the TR at normal incidence is by a least two orders of magnitude higher. For the first time the experiment, which has not been explained until now, is interpreted.
