Abstract
Slow solitary elastic waves (SSEWs) with discrete velocities, experimentally detected in 1992 in the Lebedev Physical Institute and then observed in various solid and liquid media, are considered as an analogue of hypothetical planetary D-waves by Sh. A. Guberman, which provoke earthquakes in his model. The similarity of essential properties of these waves justifies the necessity of studying SSEWs in geological media as well, as a possible agent initiating destructions in critically stressed structures.
