Abstract

The crystallization method for removing the lead impurity from secondary zinc, which is based on the liquation refining applied in zinc metallurgy and the monotectic transformation in the zinc-lead system, is considered. A laboratory setup allowing the acquisition of cylindrical samples 2 cm in diameter and up to 5 cm in height using planar crystallization from the top to the bottom is developed. Three series of experiments are performed, and a spectral analysis is fulfilled in several points over the height of the samples. Contaminated zinc with an average lead content of 0.26, 0.80, and 2.00% was used as the material for purification. It is established that, as a result of using this technology, lead is removed from the upper part of the sample and enriches its lower part.
