Abstract
April 5, 2009, is the 38th Anniversary of the first detail being pressed in the powder metallurgy shop of the Volzhskii Automobile Plant (VAZ). Since that time, this date is celebrated there as the birthday of powder metallurgy. Its foundation in 1971 was based on using the best import materials and equipment at time and it became a special “window to Europe“ for domestic powder metallurgists. For more than a quarter of a century, this was the flagship of domestic powder metallurgy. In the history of the development of this subindustry at VAZ, we can see four separate stages.
