Abstract

A review of papers on the application of flotation separation for synthetic diamond powders has been performed. It has been established that the applied use of this method is generally focused on enriching the diamond synthesis product and improving the quality of already produced conditioned synthetic diamond powders by their individual characteristics, in particular, the static strength of grains. Some results from the comparative quantitative study of the grain projection roughness and other morphometric and technological properties of the foam and chamber products from the flotation separation of conditioned abrasive powder AC20 100/80 are presented. For the first time, it has been established at a quantitative level that the form fraction powders have lower grain projection roughness and specific perimeter values as compared to the chamber fraction. Just these morphometric characteristics are indirectly responsible for developing the surface of grains, i.e., for their roughness. It has been shown that the known scientific and methodical means for the indirect analytical diagnosis of the morphometric characteristics and technological properties of diamond abrasive powder provide reliable information to make a decision about the quality of flotation separation and the advisability of its repeated or multistage application.
