Abstract
The title of this work at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries was popular in scientific, sociopolitical, and popular literature. In this work, however, we are not concerned with the next century, but with solar flares and superflares over the next hundred years. Can we predict the timing of a powerful superflare? Can we calculate the consequences of an electromagnetic attack from the Sun that are detrimental to life on Earth? What can be done to preserve our civilization?
