Dissipative Solitons in Nonequilibrium Metastable Media

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Physics Aims and scope

Abstract

An equation is proposed for studying the nonlinear dynamics of localized dissipative extremely short structures in nonequilibrium nonresonant media. The lifetimes of these structures are much shorter than the characteristic periods of relaxation of the quantum states of a medium, but can be comparable to those of phase relaxation. A solution is analyzed in the form of a solitary unipolar pulse with a restriction imposed on the coefficients of the equation. An equation for the envelope of a quasi-monochromatic pulse is derived under similar conditions, and differences between it and the Ginzburg–Landau equation are noted.
