Threshold Magnetic Fields in the Untwisted Phase of a Liquid Crystal Suspension of Quadrupole Particles

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Physics Aims and scope

Abstract

A study is performed of orientation phase transitions in a suspension of diamagnetic particles based on a cholesteric liquid crystal with soft (final) homeotropic coupling between subsystems with homogeneous impurity distributions. The mutual orientation of the directors of each subsystem in the untwisted state of the suspension is investigated. The critical values of the parameters corresponding to the boundaries of the phases of uniform orientation are found.
