Abstract
The optical properties of a dielectric ridge on the surface of a one-dimensional photonic crystal are studied. It is shown that high-Q resonances, manifested in the emergence of sharp minima in the transmission spectrum and peaks in the reflection spectrum, can appear when a Bloch surface wave is oblique on a ridge. The ridge also supports a special type of nonleaky eigenmodes, bound states in the continuum. The proposed structure can be used to design new integrated optical devices.
