Abstract
Two ways of eliminating the Bohr–Weisskopf effect in the theory of hyperfine splitting (HFS) are compared: the ratio and specific-difference (SD) approaches to the differences between the HFS values in different shells. A comparison reveals a number of disadvantages in the SD approach. Conclusions based on results obtained in regard to further refining the magnetic moment of the 209Bi nucleus with heavy ions in the storage rings of GSI Darmstadt and IMP Lanzhou are considered.
