Investigating the bit rate of a quantum key over free space, depending on the conditions of transmission

Abstract

An experimental setup for investigating the distribution of a quantum key over free space is described. The results from experiments to study the rate of key generation and that of the quantum bit error as a function of the quantum efficiency of single-photon detectors and the average number of photons per pulse is given.
