Abstract
The laws and mechanisms of the epitaxial growth of submicron island films, i.e., films about 0.01 μm in diameter, have been studied by the molecular dynamics method. The interatomic interaction in the simulated system and in the continuous substrate was described by the Lennard-Jones potential. The condensed growth of island films is found to follow the Volmer-Weber mechanism.
