Abstract

Drastic changes of the IR spectra of optical phonons in europium molybdate single crystal were observed after its hydrostatic compression: instead of a series of narrow lines, wide bands were observed and a new band appeared, which can be attributed to the formation of the high pressure phase. Stepped annealing at temperatures from 100 to 550°C transformed the europium molybdate subjected to pressure to the initial β′ phase, the high-pressure phase disappeared, and bands corresponding to the α phase appeared.
