Abstract
Magnetoelastocaloric effects in rare earth metals and alloys have been thermodynamically investigated. It is found that these magnets, along with the ordinary elastocaloric effect, exhibit a giant magnetoelastocaloric effect near the magnetic ordering temperatures, which is proportional to the temperature derivative of spontaneous magnetostriction.
