Numerical 3D Simulation of Heat Transfer during Friction Stir Welding

Abstract

A 3D mathematical model of friction stir welding is discussed. The model includes equations defining 3D flow of a plastic medium and 3D temperature distribution in the weld seam. Heat release is taken into account both from external friction and from internal friction during motion of a plastic medium. The solution to the problem during friction stir welding of an aluminum alloy is analyzed.
