The reverse task of failure mechanics of column-supported plates

Abstract

On the base of minimax criterion, how to determine the optimal form of a contact spot between a plate and supports during bending has been analyzed. A closed set of algebraic equations permitting the minimalization of the values of failure parameters (the coefficients of failure intensities) as a dependence on plate geometry has been developed. The discovered form of a contact spot between a plate and a support increases the load-carrying ability of a bending plate.
