Abstract
The problem of how increased temperatures influence the mechanical properties of the surface layer of a medium-carbon steel strengthened by electromechanical treatment is examined. The results of investigation of the influence of time-temperature characteristics on the white layer are presented. An analytical relationship between the microhardness of the strengthened surface and time-temperature tempering characteristics is proposed. This relationship permits forecasting required mechanical properties of the strengthened surface layer under certain service conditions.
