On the materialistic concept of information

  • Published:
Automatic Documentation and Mathematical Linguistics Aims and scope

Abstract

The problem of defining the place and essence of information in the scientific worldview is considered and the fundamental principles of the materialistic understanding of information are formulated. It is proposed to understand information as a state of matter. The validity of the suggested definition is illustrated by a series of examples, including those presented by other authors. The objectivity of information is shown, as well as the subjectivity of its perception. The consistency is demonstrated of the proposed definition of information with the information concept used by the proponents of different approaches to it. A multilevel approach to the definition of information is suggested.
