Abstract

In this article the connection of the general classification of sciences is represented that was developed by B.M. Kedrov using the thematic content of database fragments based on free volumes and separate issues of the Abstract Journal of the All-Russian scientific and technical information institute (VINITI) of the Russian Academy of Science. The distribution of total document data flows is obtained for different areas according to knowledge classification in the database of the All-Russian scientific and technical information institute during 1981–2008. The peculiarities of formation of VINITI polythematic database and its statistical characteristics during 2001–2008 are considered. Polythematic databases of the leading countries of the world are compared.
