Investigating highly excited states of 9Li in the pion absorption reaction

Abstract

Highly excited states in 9Li are sought in missing mass spectra measured in the stopped pion absorption reaction 11B(π, dt)X. Observed for the first time in the two-particle reaction π + 11B → d + 9Li* was a highly excited 9Li state with E x = 12.0 ± 0.5 MeV that decayed with the emission of a triton.
