Abstract

Consideration of the elements of the protologue show thatAcer nikoense Maximowicz must be regarded as a valid name for the Nikko Maple of Japan when published in November 1867, not based onNegundo?nikoense Miquel.Acer maximowiczianum Miquel (Dec. 1867) is a superfluous synonym based onA. nikoense Maxim. non Miq.
